Big Thief launch a live archive with ten full concert recordings
Big Thief launched the Big Thief Live Archive on 14 October 2026, an official website for the band's live recordings that opens with ten complete concerts. According to Stereogum, the project grew out of drummer James Krivchenia's interest in the Grateful Dead's live releases.
The shows were recorded by the band's front-of-house engineer Alice Wilder and monitor engineer Aleda Deroche, and mixed by Fabian Prynn, 4AD's in-house engineer. A new concert will be added on the second Tuesday of every month. The earliest recording available at launch is a November 2019 show in Columbus. Listening is free, and users can build their own playlists from tracks taken from different shows.
In a statement, the band said they had spent the last couple of years building the site and began recording all their shows around 2019. They noted that the songs change from night to night and that they spend far more time on the road than in the studio, so they wanted to capture the "ever-undulating aliveness" of their music.
Alongside the launch, Big Thief released live audio of “Incomprehensible” on streaming services, recorded on 29 April 2026 at 3Arena in Dublin. Earlier, they had posted full-length video of their November 2025 show at the Opera House At 7A Ranch in Wimberley, Texas. At Nashville's Ryman Auditorium the band recently debuted “Horsepower”, a country-leaning, guest-heavy triple album that has not yet been announced for commercial release.
Big Thief are an American indie rock and indie folk band formed in Brooklyn in 2015. Their newest studio album is “Double Infinity” (2025), according to MusicBrainz.
