Dave Angel returns to R&S Records with the album “A Time And Place”
British techno producer Dave Angel has released “A Time And Place”, his first full-length album for Belgian label R&S Records, according to Electronic Groove. The 15-track record is out on triple vinyl and digitally.
The release comes 35 years after Angel first joined the label. The relationship began in 1991, when R&S founder Renaat Vandepapeliere discovered his “Rolling Thunder” project and invited him to Belgium. That led to “1st Voyage”, followed by records such as “Stairway To Heaven” and “3rd Voyage”, appearances on the “In Order To Dance” compilation series and releases on sister label Apollo.
The new album draws on Angel’s long-standing ties to jazz, soul and improvisation, stepping outside conventional techno structures and pairing rhythm with live instrumentation and melodic passages. Trumpeter Steve Waterman plays on “Réflexion” and “The Yellow Butterfly”, while Chicago vocalist Robert Owens features on “Harmony Serenade”. Guitarist Merv Carswell and vocalist Aurii Sky also appear on the record.
Dave Angel was born in 1966 in Chelsea, London. According to Electronic Groove, he grew up in a household steeped in jazz and live music, influences that predate his techno career.
