Isla Electronics releases ASYX, a software recreation of the Alesis Andromeda A6
Isla Electronics has released ASYX, a plugin that recreates the synthesis architecture and sound of the Alesis Andromeda A6 analog synthesizer. According to Synthtopia, the software instrument runs on Windows and macOS and is priced at approximately $136.
ASYX models the original's oscillator and filter circuitry. Each voice has two oscillators with sub-oscillators, hard and soft sync and frequency modulation, with noise and ring modulation in the pre-filter mixer. The two filter designs associated with the Andromeda A6, a 12 dB-per-octave multimode filter and a 24 dB-per-octave low-pass, can be routed in series or parallel. There are three LFOs with six waveforms and three seven-stage envelopes with nine selectable curves.
The plugin also offers a 16-step sequencer, an arpeggiator, 29 digital effect algorithms covering chorus, delay and reverb, and more than 1,200 programs, including the original factory sounds and artist banks. Each instance supports up to 16 parts for splits and layers, and dedicated controls add analog-style variation, from oscillator tuning to drift.
Andromeda owners can import original SysEx programs and banks and send edited programs back to the hardware. With bidirectional MIDI, the A6's physical controls can operate ASYX, while supported parameter changes in the software are sent back to the synth.
On 16 October, mbuzz reported that Isla Electronics was developing ASYX, following a preview by Dirk Rohde.
