Lil Nas X returns with “World’s Greatest” single and Atlanta-shot video

Lil Nas X has released “World’s Greatest,” his first single in nearly two years, according to Rolling Stone. The song was announced on September 30 with a clip of a voicemail from his late mother, Tamikia Hill, who died in August. He wrote on Instagram that “Walk by faith, not by sight” was her favorite phrase.

Billboard reports that Lil Nas X wrote the song, with production by C. WRAY and Steve Rusch. The lyrics deal with self-belief, childhood and family support, and the chorus repeats “I’m a champion.” Rolling Stone notes a spliced line from “Industry Baby” near the end.

The video, directed by Phillip Youmans, was filmed in his hometown of Atlanta. It intercuts a dance-studio rehearsal with scenes from his childhood and closes with a dedication to his mother. Pitchfork notes the song follows the 2025 EP Days Before Dreamboy.
