Mogwai team up with Iggy Pop on new single “Underground”
Scottish band Mogwai have announced the compilation “Happy Tears”, due on January 8 via their own label Rock Action Records, and released a new single, “Underground”, featuring Iggy Pop. According to Rolling Stone, the video was directed by Scott McPherson.
Iggy Pop wrote the lyrics and sings on the track. NME and Consequence report that he said he has always liked Mogwai, and that the sung vocal was arranged by Matt Sweeney. The compilation gathers key songs from the band’s 30-year career plus rarities, including “Brand New Paths to Helicon 1”, a reworking of “New Paths To Helicon 1”. The 4xLP edition adds 13 tracks, six of them previously unreleased.
An audio documentary, “Happy Tears: The Story Of Mogwai”, narrated by Matt Everitt, is also out on January 8. The band play European dates in November, including two shows at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on November 20 and 21.
