Morrissey ranks his solo albums and singles, with “Bonfire Of Teenagers” on top
Morrissey has posted his own ranking of his solo albums and songs on his website, Morrissey Central, NME reports. The former Smiths frontman said he loved them all, but these are the ones of which he is “most proud”.
Top of the list is “Bonfire Of Teenagers”, an album completed in 2021 that remains unreleased after a dispute with Capitol. It had been announced for a 2023 release on the label, but Morrissey later said he had withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records. He also said Miley Cyrus, who recorded backing vocals for “I Am Veronica” in 2020, asked for her vocals to be removed. In 2024 he confirmed he had bought back the rights to the record.
Second is “Make-Up Is A Lie”, released in March as his 14th solo album, followed by “You Are The Quarry” (2004), “Vauxhall And I” (1994) and “Years Of Refusal” (2009). The top 10 also features “Ringleader Of The Tormentors”, “Your Arsenal”, “Swords”, “Southpaw Grammar” and the Smiths’ 1988 release “Rank”.
Among the songs, “Irish Blood, English Heart” (2004) comes first, ahead of “First Of The Gang To Die”, “It's Over”, “Alma Matters” and “I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris”. The 12-song list also includes “Happy New Tears” (2026) and “Wedding Bell Blues”, his 2018 collaboration with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.
Born in 1959 in Davyhulme, England, Morrissey works in alternative and indie rock. He plays five UK arena dates in December, from Brighton on 6 December to Leeds on 19 December, after cancelling several US shows, a date in Valencia and his Las Vegas residency earlier this year.
