Pet Shop Boys release concept album “A man from the future” about Alan Turing
Pet Shop Boys have released “A man from the future”, a concept album on Parlophone Records about mathematician Alan Turing, widely regarded as the father of modern computing. According to Billboard, it covers eight chapters of his life and death, from his school days to his trial, conviction and death in 1954.
The album was produced by the duo and Sven Helbig, who also wrote the string arrangements played by the Manchester Camerata Octet. Juliet Stevenson reads spoken-word passages from Andrew Hodges’ book “Alan Turing: the Enigma”. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe first wrote the work with Hodges in 2012-13 and performed pieces from it at a BBC Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in July 2014. The project has now been reworked with new electronic elements, new text and fresh orchestrations.
It follows 2024’s “Nonetheless”, which peaked at No. 2 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart.
