Watain to headline extra night at Fortress Festival 2027

Swedish band Watain will headline “Fortress: First Light”, a new opening night of Fortress Festival, on 28 May 2027 on the main stage at Scarborough Spa in North Yorkshire. According to metal.de, it will be the band's only UK show. Terrestrial Hospice will also play that night, making their UK live debut, with more acts still to come.

The Friday night needs separate tickets, as weekend passes do not cover it. The main festival, now in its fifth edition, runs on 29 and 30 May, and the organisers say only a few tickets remain.

Eight more acts have joined the main festival bill. Stormkeep, Mare and Sulphur Aeon will play UK-exclusive sets, as will Ninkharsag, returning after a two-year break from the stage. Silver Knife, Bloodbark and Oerheks will make their UK live debuts, while Örnatorpet will play the dungeon synth stage in the theatre. They join the previously announced Emperor as headliner, the world live debut of Gris and a world-exclusive show by Gràb.

Watain formed in Sweden in 1998 and play black metal. Their newest studio album, according to MusicBrainz, is “The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain”, released in April 2022. The band last played Romania on 4 August 2024 at Râșnov Fortress.
