YouTube Music starts labelling tracks made with generative AI

YouTube Music has started adding labels to tracks created primarily with generative artificial intelligence, an initiative announced on 14 October 2026, according to Electronic Groove.

The disclosures appear directly on the YouTube Music player page, and listeners can tap them for more information about tracks with significant generative AI contributions. The system focuses on areas such as composition and vocals. The company also plans to bring the labels to the main YouTube app, though it has not set a date.

In its announcement, YouTube said it wants listeners to have "the right information and clarity" about the music they hear.

The move follows similar transparency steps elsewhere in streaming. In August, Spotify announced plans for an "AI persona" label on profiles identified as AI-generated, while Apple Music began rolling out "AI Transparency Tags" in March, with further labelling planned for later in 2026. Electronic Groove describes the developments as part of a growing effort by platforms to show how much generative AI is involved in making and presenting music.
