Alice Cooper talks drug addiction ahead of his memoir “Devil on My Shoulder”
Alice Cooper has spoken about his drug addiction in an interview with The Telegraph, ahead of the release of his memoir “Devil on My Shoulder” on October 8, according to Z-Rock. The book comes out through Ebury Spotlight in the UK and Da Capo in the US.
Cooper says his drug problems began after his well-documented struggle with alcohol, and that crack cocaine nearly killed him. He first entered rehab in 1976, a stay that later inspired the album “From The Inside”. He got clean for good in 1983, after his wife Sheryl gave him an ultimatum.
Cooper, who turned 78 in February, said retirement is not on his mind, since Alice is a character who does not age. His tour supporting the book starts on October 11 in Cardiff, and the “Alice Attic” run continues on October 27 at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida. He has also added dates to his “Welcome To My Nightmare” Las Vegas residency with illusionist Criss Angel.
