Scottish band CHVRCHES have announced “All The King’s Men”, their first album in nearly six years, due on 22 January 2027. According to NME it is the trio’s fifth album and their first since “Screen Violence” in 2021, a record that reached the UK Top 10, Clash notes.
The album has 11 songs, including the single “Roses” and “Conman”, which the band debuted live this year at Robert Smith’s Teenage Cancer Trust series at the Royal Albert Hall. Where “Screen Violence” was written remotely, Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty wrote and recorded the new songs over several three-week stints in Glasgow. The songs look at the culture and history of Britain and Scotland. Doherty drew on Ken Loach’s films and on Massive Attack and Siouxsie & The Banshees, while Cook moved towards acoustic instruments, inspired by Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. Doherty told NME it would be “the most fearless record” the band has made.
Ahead of the release, CHVRCHES play charity shows in Glasgow on 26 October and London on 29 October. The 2027 tour opens in Philadelphia on 13 February, takes in Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles, then moves to Scotland, Ireland and England in April and May, ending at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 6 May. Tickets go on sale on 30 October, with pre-sales from 27 October.
CHVRCHES formed in Glasgow in 2011 and play synth-pop. In September mbuzz reported their return with “Roses”, their first new song in three years. Since the last album, Mayberry released her solo debut “Vicious Creatures” in December 2024.
