Grimes announces album “Psyopera” and releases single “Accelerando”

Grimes has announced a new album, “Psyopera”, her first since 2020’s “Miss Anthropocene”, and released the single “Accelerando”, made with VADAKIN. According to NME, the track is dark and ravey, capturing the harsh, intense energy of the full record. The announcement came on social media with a cryptic video, and no release date has been shared.

In the clip, a message reads “Please wait patiently for the failure of the system”, before Grimes speaks about God, Eden and artificial intelligence. AI is a central theme of the album, though she has said she did not use AI to make the songs. On the Swiftologist podcast she called the subject “very relevant” to modern life, while admitting she wishes for “a bit more of the emotions” on that side.

Asked on the same podcast whether her relationship with Elon Musk inspired any songs, she said she did not want any of it to be about him. She also hinted that the record could be split in two parts, the second being “100 per cent personal”. “Psyopera” will be the first Grimes album released on her own label, Nazgul Recording LLC.

Grimes is a Canadian musician, singer, record producer and music video director, born in 1988 in Vancouver, working in electronica, art pop and synth-pop. According to MusicBrainz, her newest studio album is “Miss Anthropocene”, released on 21 February 2020. This year she made a surprise appearance at Coachella 2026 and released the song “Artificial Angels”, written from the perspective of artificial intelligence.
