Nightwish part ways with singer Floor Jansen

Finnish band Nightwish announced on social media that they are parting ways with Floor Jansen, the third singer in their history, according to Bulgarian outlet WeRock. In the statement, the band say the decision was reached by mutual agreement after careful consideration and was necessary for their future plans, so both sides will now pursue their goals separately.

The band and the singer wish each other the best, and the message calls the split the end of a journey it describes as truly magnificent. Nightwish will carry on: in 2027 the musicians plan to go into the studio to record a new album. The news comes as the group marks its 30th anniversary, and the members say they could not be more excited about their music and their future.

According to WeRock, Tarja Turunen fronted the band from its founding until 2005. She was followed by Swedish singer Anette Olzon from 2007 to 2012. Dutch singer Floor Jansen joined as a temporary replacement in 2012 and became the official vocalist in 2013. Her successor has not been named.

Nightwish are a symphonic metal band formed in 1996 in Kitee, Finland, also rooted in power metal. Their newest studio album, “Yesterwynde”, came out on 20 September 2024, according to MusicBrainz.
