Dutch band De Staat will play Analog Music Hall in Budapest on 16 March, presenting their latest album, the self-titled “De Staat”, according to zene.hu. The show is among extra dates announced after the band's autumn tour of Europe and the UK.
The album marks the band's return after two years of silence and came with an art installation and live show called “De Staat Becomes De Staat”. It was created with director Floor Houwink Ten Cate, audiovisual artist Boris Acket, lighting designer Freek Ros, visual artist Tarik Barri, sound designer Reinier Rietveld and dance collective 155. The show premiered at Down The Rabbit Hole festival and was followed by two performances at Amsterdam's Royal Theatre Carré.
Lead single “THE KING”, about the endless, destructive cycle of power, was described by 3voor12 as the band's most uncompromising and subversive song yet. It was followed by “THE FIRE”, “GLORY”, “THE UNDERDOG” and “FREEDOM”, which deal with complacency, power, division and artificial intelligence.
Active for nearly 25 years, the alternative rock band blends industrial grooves, heavy riffs, experimental electronics and pop, and their songs often explore demagoguery and mass manipulation. De Staat have played SXSW, Glastonbury, Lowlands, Rock for People, Pukkelpop and Sziget, and have toured with The Rolling Stones, Muse and Biffy Clyro.
