PRS launches the Tekton range of modern electric guitars
PRS has unveiled Tekton, a new range of USA-made electric guitars aimed at technical players in rock, metal and other contemporary styles, according to Guitar World. The company calls it “a whole new family of guitars”.
There are four models: the hardtail Tekton, the Tekton T with the classic PRS two-point vibrato, the Tekton Floyd with a Floyd Rose tremolo, and the seven-string Tekton SVN. The Tekton T launches at $2,899 / £2,899 and the SVN at $2,999 / £2,999. The SVN is PRS's first USA-built production seven-string and the brand's first seven-string with a bolt-on neck.
The new body shape sits between the Custom 24 and the Vela, with deep contouring and a heavily sculpted neck heel. PRS says the bodies and necks are the thinnest it has ever put into production. The body is mahogany with a mango top, the maple neck is reinforced with hormigo, a dense hardwood, and the ebony fingerboard carries 24 stainless steel frets. The six-string models move from the usual PRS 25-inch scale to 25.5 inches.
The range also debuts PRS's Stylus humbuckers, with Alnico 5 magnets, designed to sound as good through digital amp modelers as through valve amps; a push-pull tone control splits the coils. Finishes are Bloodstone Red, Slate Blue, Imperial Topaz, Black Tourmaline, Violet Tourmaline and Fuchsia Aura, and a gig bag is included.
The Maryland company already makes signature guitars for heavy players including Mark Tremonti, Mark Holcomb and Herman Li.
