Greta Van Fleet's Jake Kiszka shares five tips on guitar tone
Jake Kiszka, guitarist of Greta Van Fleet and Mirador, has given Guitar World his top five tips on guitar tone. According to the magazine, he believes he used more gear than ever while recording Greta Van Fleet's latest album, “Palace for the People”.
His first tip is to rely on the amp rather than on pedals, keeping the path from the hands to the amp as direct as possible. The second is to start on acoustic guitar: Kiszka recalls that his father took away his electric guitar right after he got it, something he now thanks him for. He suggests playing some Bob Dylan, or even something basic, as a foundation for tone.
The third tip is about choosing instruments wisely: a baritone 12-string, a standard 12-string, a classical and a parlor guitar each do something different, so there is no need for two of the same. He then recommends combo amps, which he says his generation has forgotten, arguing they simplify the sound while adding nuance to the player. The last tip concerns recording: pull the mic back from the amp and let the room breathe, since distance adds depth.
Jake Kiszka was born in 1996 in Frankenmuth, in the United States, and is the guitarist of the American rock band Greta Van Fleet.
