Tantrum Audio unveils NEXUS, a compact hardware DSP unit for room correction

UK-based Tantrum Audio has announced NEXUS, a compact hardware DSP processor designed for room correction. According to MusicTech, the unit is available to preorder now at £429, with shipping expected from 17 November.

NEXUS routes a DAW, an artist's laptop and an external playback device into a single time-aligned monitoring system. Room correction, EQ, crossover and alignment all run on the unit rather than on the connected computer. It is set up through Tantrum's Omnissiah software for macOS, Windows and Linux, which comes with no licence fee or subscription, and the unit runs standalone once configured.

Processing latency is 0.85ms from analogue in to analogue out, and the company quotes a 120 dB noise floor and 0.0013% THD. Each DSP output gets 15 parametric EQ and all-pass filters, 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley or Butterworth crossovers and up to 10ms of time alignment with phase rotators. Presets are unlimited.

Inputs include two balanced TRS analogue connections, a stereo 3.5mm aux input for phones and players, coaxial S/PDIF and 2-channel USB audio playback, the last two at up to 96kHz. Outputs are two balanced TRS connections plus a subwoofer, mono or utility output. Control runs over MIDI and OSC, with macros covering almost every function, from mute, gain and routing to master volume, test noise and preset recall.

The 1U unit measures 169.6 x 43 x 100mm and weighs 600g. It has two rear USB-C ports, one for control and audio and one for power, and carries a two-year warranty.
