Technics releases the SL-1210MKX, the first successor to the MK7 since 2019
Technics has released the SL-1210MKX, a new DJ turntable that follows the SL-1210MK7. According to Gearnews, it is the first proper successor in the 1200 series since 2019. The deck is on sale through Thomann for €1499.
The series goes back a long way. The SL-1200MK2 arrived in 1979 and quickly became the standard DJ deck thanks to its strong torque and direct drive system. Technics has released a number of variants since.
The new model weighs 11.9kg, up from 9.6kg for the MK7. The extra weight, together with newly developed high-performance isolators, is meant to cut the risk of feedback during a set. Pitch control now offers four ranges: the familiar ±8% and ±16% are joined by ±4% and ±50%. As on some other recent Technics models, there is also a reverse play mode. Further changes include a glare-free LED stylus illuminator, a quieter push-type reset button, a more secure headshell mount and a larger phono ground terminal.
The rest stays true to the series: a die-cast aluminium platter, a polished silver tonearm with height adjustment, speeds of 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm, and an electronic brake. Outputs are the standard phono RCA pair plus the ground terminal.
The turntable ships with a removable dust cover and a dedicated MKX slipmat and slipsheet. It comes in black and silver, and a cartridge is not included.
