Teenage Engineering launches the EP-35, a portable amp, speaker and audio interface

Teenage Engineering has released the EP-35, a battery-powered 35W multi-input amplifier, available now for $349, according to MusicRadar. The Swedish company pitches it as a hub for all audio-producing devices: a guitar, synth, microphone, laptop or phone can be plugged in at once, with a summing mixer letting them be heard together. MusicRadar had reported on a leaked FCC filing for the device earlier in October.

The front holds a 30W woofer and a 25W tweeter, with a 50Hz-20kHz frequency response. On top are a 3.5mm line input and output, an XLR mic input with +48V phantom power, a 1/4-inch Hi-Z guitar input and three USB-C ports. Behind the side grille sits a storage compartment for cables, with a camp light whose disco mode reacts to the audio.

Guitarists get eight multi-effects presets combining amp emulation, reverb, delay, tremolo, distortion and modulation in genre-themed settings such as surf rock, blues and acoustic. The mic effects cover pop and rock, plus voice changers including a frog and a robot choir. A single dry/wet dial, running from zero to 11, sets the amount. A wireless pedal with two pressure-sensitive buttons adjusts volume and effects and triggers the onboard looper.

The EP-35 also works as a Bluetooth speaker and a USB 2.0 audio interface. Auracast links several units, and two can play in stereo. Accessories include an XLR condenser mic, a USB drive with backing tracks, an FM antenna and a dock kit for the EP-133 K.O. II sampler. The company is also teasing a CD-playing DJ device or controller sized for its EP-136 Sidekick mixer.

In October mbuzz reported that founder Jesper Kouthoofd had said the firm will stop making synthesizers, according to the German magazine Groove.
