Tony Iommi releases “From the Dark”, his first solo album in over 20 years

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi released “From the Dark” on 23 October 2026, his first solo album in more than two decades, according to Consequence.

The record runs to eight tracks of heavy metal in the Sabbath tradition, recalling the towering riffs the band chased through the 1980s and 1990s. Consequence describes a blend of doom metal, traditional heavy metal and touches of US power metal. The album was preceded by the singles “World Alone” and “Stormwatcher”, the latter named the outlet's Heavy Song of the Week.

Norwegian singer Jørn Lande sings on every track, in a performance Consequence likens to Ronnie James Dio's ferocity. The lineup is completed by bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil. The album is available to stream and on vinyl and CD.

Iommi also features in the concert film “Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning”, which documents the final performances of Black Sabbath and of Ozzy Osbourne. It opens in cinemas on 28 October.

Born in Birmingham, England, in 1948, Tony Iommi is a founding member of Black Sabbath and one of the central figures of heavy metal.
