Vangelis symphonic tribute concert comes to Sofia on 9 May 2027

The show “VANGELIS - ORIGINAL SYMPHONIC CONCERT” will be staged on 9 May 2027 in Hall 1 of Sofia’s National Palace of Culture (NDK), according to Actualno. BGTSC is bringing the production to Bulgaria together with JVC Group; it was first presented with the Prague Philharmonic at a sold-out O2 Arena in Prague.

More than 100 musicians, a symphony orchestra and a choir, will perform, with large-screen projections tied to the films Vangelis scored. The evening’s special guest is British conductor Pete Harrison, known for concerts that combine a classical orchestra with film music and pop culture.

The programme gives a special place to “Conquest of Paradise”, the theme from “1492: Conquest of Paradise” that has long been heard at major sporting events and official ceremonies. The audience will also hear themes from the Oscar-winning “Chariots of Fire”, Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner”, “Alexander”, Roman Polanski’s drama “Bitter Moon” and the adventure film “The Bounty”.

Tickets are sold exclusively through Eventim.bg and the NDK ticket office. The organisers note that e-tickets do not need to be printed and can be scanned straight from a phone screen.

Vangelis, born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou, was a Greek composer born in 1943 in Agria, who died in 2022. His work spanned electronic music, progressive rock and new age.
