Björk announces worldwide release of live album “Björk Orkestral With the Hamrahlíð Choir”

Björk has announced the worldwide release of “Björk Orkestral With the Hamrahlíð Choir”, a live album recorded in 2021 at Harpa Hall in Reykjavík. It arrives on November 27 via One Little Independent on vinyl, CD, Blu-ray and DVD, and according to Pitchfork no digital release is planned.

The record mainly collects new arrangements of songs from “Medúlla”, her 2004 album built almost entirely around the human voice. She is joined by the 50-person Hamrahlíð Choir, founded by Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir, with Bergur Þórisson as musical director. The album first came out in May as an exclusive for the National Gallery of Iceland.

According to OndaRock, long rehearsals made possible by the pandemic pause let Björk rework older songs she felt she had not yet learned to perform live. Proceeds from the original concerts went to Kvennaathvarfið, a women’s shelter in Reykjavík.
