Blondie announce new album “High Noon” and share single “Spectral Eyes”

Blondie have announced their new album “High Noon”, due on 26 February via BMG, and released its lead single “Spectral Eyes” on 15 October. According to NME, it is the band's 12th studio album and their first collection of new material in nine years. The record features the final recordings of co-founder and drummer Clem Burke, who died following a battle with cancer.

Across 13 songs, Debbie Harry and Chris Stein are joined by guests including Johnny Marr, Glen Matlock, Zach Condon of Beirut, and Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius. “Spectral Eyes” was written by Marr, who also plays guitar on it. Matlock wrote “Sleepwalking”, while “Little Metal Drummer” revisits a song former keyboardist Jimmy Destri first recorded for his debut solo album “Heart On A Wall”. The album mixes the band's punk-rock sound with dance music and Latin rhythms.

Sessions began in New York in 2022 with producer John Congleton, who had also worked with the original trio on 2017's “Pollinator”. Harry called the record “classic Blondie”, a blend of the band's influences and eras. Its visuals were made with artist and director Rob Roth, who has worked with Blondie since their 1999 album “No Exit”.

Blondie formed in New York City in 1974 and became one of the defining American new wave bands. Asked by NME whether this would be their last record, Stein said he did not know, citing his own health problems.

Other tracks include “Heartbreak Kid”, “Tambo Tambo”, “East of Eden” and “Ah, Sunflower, Weary of Time”.
