Blossoms claim fifth UK No. 1 album, edging out The Beatles
Blossoms have earned their fifth No. 1 studio album in the UK with “Songs From the Wedding Cake”, according to Billboard. The Stockport band overtook The Beatles, who had led the midweek chart with a 60th anniversary reissue of “Rubber Soul”.
Blossoms first reached No. 1 in 2016 with their self-titled debut, followed by “Foolish Loving Spaces” (2020), “Ribbon Around the Bomb” (2022) and “Gary” (2024). Speaking to the Official Charts Company, the band said they do not take it for granted to still be topping the chart ten years after their first album, and thanked everyone who bought or played the record. They signed off with “See you on tour”.
The Beatles land at No. 2 with “Rubber Soul”, which features a new mix of the 1965 album by Giles Martin, son of the band’s producer George Martin, plus unheard tracks and studio chatter. Olivia Rodrigo’s “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” is No. 3, followed by Michael Jackson’s compilation “The Essential”. Johnny Marr, formerly of The Smiths, enters at No. 5 with “The Age of Everything”, his second top five album after 2022’s “Fever Dreams Pts 1-4”. Fat Dog’s “Cancel Me (I’m Tired)” reaches No. 13, the south London group’s highest chart position to date, and Drake’s “HABIBTI” returns at No. 20 after an expanded edition.
Blossoms formed in Stockport in 2013. “Songs From the Wedding Cake”, released on 2 October 2026, is their sixth studio album, according to MusicBrainz.
