Scottish band Glasvegas have announced “Airy Fairy”, their fifth album, out on 2 April, and shared its first single, “Degüello”. The record will be followed by an 11-date tour of the UK and Ireland, including a show at the Dome in London on 14 May. Tickets go on sale on 30 October at 10am.
According to NME, the album was written as a reaction to the frustrations of making its 2021 predecessor, “Godspeed”. Frontman James Allan told the magazine he is not at ease with the engineering side of recording, so this time the band had some help. According to Clash, the album was recorded at a studio near Airdrie, with James Allan leading the production alongside founding members Rab Allan on guitar and Paul Donoghue on bass.
“Degüello” takes its title from a Spanish word Allan heard in an old film; he used it for the less pleasant sides of his personality, such as his temper and bad moods, and calls the song his plan for becoming something better. Rab Allan picked it as the lead single. The album title comes from a label often aimed at the singer: school reports called him a “dreamer”, and he says he has come to accept that part of himself.
Glasvegas are an indie rock band formed in 2003 in Dalmarnock, Scotland.
