Unseen 1978 David Bowie concert “Stage” heads to arenas in 2027

An unseen David Bowie concert filmed in 1978, titled “Stage”, will tour arenas from 2027 as an immersive show, NME reports. The world premiere is set for 14 February 2027 at Berlin’s Uber Arena, in association with the 77th Berlin International Film Festival. Tickets go on sale on 30 October; in May the show moves on to other cities in Germany, Austria and France, and in June and July it plays the UK, including a date at Earls Court.

The show is assembled from raw, unseen 35mm footage of Bowie’s 1978 concert at London’s Earls Court, part of the tour behind the “Heroes” album, which sat in his archives for almost 50 years. It is made by Wonderworld with the David Bowie Estate and filmmaker Brett Morgen. The film will be paired with a lightshow designed by Patrick Woodroffe and an immersive audio mix by Academy Award winner Paul Massey, while transparent LED screens aim to create the illusion that Bowie and his band are on stage.

Morgen found the footage ten years ago while working on the documentary “Moonage Daydream”; the project gained momentum in 2024 when former AEG Live President of International Rob Hallett joined. In 2000, Bowie said, as quoted by The Guardian, that he “simply didn’t like the way it had been shot”. The event is part of Bowie80, a series marking what would have been his 80th birthday.

David Bowie, the English musician and actor born in Brixton in 1947, died in 2016. His final studio album, “★”, came out on 8 January 2016.
