Harry Styles debuts new song written for Liam Payne at Madison Square Garden
Harry Styles performed a song he wrote for former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne for the first time during a sold-out show at New York's Madison Square Garden on 16 October 2026, two years to the day after Payne's death.
Before the song, Styles told the crowd he could not have reached this point without the friends and collaborators in his life, and that he had lost one of those friends two years earlier. According to Rolling Stone, he urged the audience to look after each other, then introduced a song he wrote for his friend about two years ago.
Payne died on 16 October 2024, aged 31, from injuries sustained after falling from the balcony of his hotel room. In March, speaking to Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Styles said he had struggled with people seeming to own part of his grief, adding that the best way to honour friends who have died is by living life to the fullest.
The concert is part of a 30-night run at Madison Square Garden within his “Together, Together” global residency, which spans 50 shows across seven cities. The shows support “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.”, his fourth studio album, released on 6 March.
Harry Styles is an English singer, songwriter and actor, born in 1994 in Redditch, who first rose to fame as a member of One Direction.
