Mariah Carey releases restored 4K “Loverboy Remix” video for Glitter's 25th anniversary

Mariah Carey has released a restored true 4K version of the “Loverboy Remix” music video as part of the 25th anniversary of her album “Glitter”, according to uDiscover Music. Directed by David LaChapelle and featuring Da Brat, Ludacris, Shawnna and Twenty II, the video was rebuilt from its original 35mm film elements while keeping the 2001 edit.

LaChapelle shot both “Loverboy” and its remix at LA County Raceway in May 2001. The restoration team scanned the original, unassembled film frame by frame on a Lasergraphics Director, then reconstructed the edit shot by shot. A new color grade reveals previously unseen detail while keeping the original pacing and performances. It is also the first time the video has been available digitally and on streaming platforms since its original release.

“Loverboy Remix” opens “Glitter”, Carey’s eighth studio album and the soundtrack to the film of the same name. Drawing on the movie’s 1983 setting, the record mixes dance-pop, funk, hip-hop and R&B, with singles including “Loverboy”, “Never Too Far” and “Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)”. In 2018 the fan-led #JusticeForGlitter campaign helped push it to No. 1 on the iTunes albums chart.

The anniversary also brings an expanded Digital Deluxe Edition of “Glitter”, returning to all streaming platforms with 15 additional tracks, including material from Carey’s personal vault and new collaborations with Rochelle Jordan and Channel Tres.

Born in 1969 in Huntington, in the United States, Mariah Carey is one of the best-known voices in pop and R&B. Her newest studio album is “Here for It All”, released on 26 September 2025, according to MusicBrainz.
