Joy Division collect 16 concerts in the “Eternal: Live” box set

Joy Division's “Eternal: Live” is out now, a box set gathering 16 full concert recordings across 14 CDs, plus two DVDs with 2 hours and 20 minutes of live video, according to No Treble. The material was recorded between March 1979 and May 1980, the last show just two weeks before Ian Curtis' death.

According to Rhino Records, the recordings come from a wide range of sources: audience tapes, sound desk recordings and international radio broadcasts. The CDs include shows at London's Hope And Anchor, Acklam Hall, YMCA and Lyceum, The Factory in Manchester, the Futurama festival in Leeds, Les Bains Douches in Paris, Paradiso in Amsterdam, Effenaar in Eindhoven, two nights at the Moonlight Club on 2 and 3 April 1980, Winter Gardens in Malvern, Ajanta Theatre in Derby and High Hall in Birmingham, the final disc opening with “Ceremony”.

The DVDs carry footage from Bowdon Vale Youth Club (14 March 1979), the Apollo in Manchester (27 and 28 October 1979) and Plan K in Brussels (16 October 1979), along with a new edit of “Joy Division – A Malcolm Whitehead Film”. The set is available as a physical box and digitally on Apple Music, Amazon Music and other services.

Joy Division formed in Salford in 1976 and split in 1980 after Curtis' death, when the remaining members went on to form New Order. The British post-punk band, whose sound was driven by Peter Hook's bass lines, released its last studio album, “Closer”, on 18 July 1980, according to MusicBrainz.
