The Rolling Stones back in the studio, says saxophonist Courtney Pine

Jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine has said he took part in a new recording session with Mick Jagger for The Rolling Stones a couple of weeks ago, only three months after the band released their album “Foreign Tongues”. According to NME, he spoke on BBC Radio 3’s Private Passions, in an episode due to air on October 11. “I’ve just done another session a couple of weeks ago with him for The Rolling Stones,” Pine said.

There is no official confirmation that the session is meant for the band’s next album. In June, though, Jagger told NME he had started writing songs before “Foreign Tongues” was even out. Asked whether it could become the middle of three records, he said it “could be a trio”, adding that some songs might go to other artists because not all of them suit the band. NME also notes that Keith Richards said earlier this year that Jagger “won’t bloody stop” making new music.

Pine previously played saxophone on Jagger’s 1993 solo album “Wandering Spirit”. “Foreign Tongues” was released on July 10 and became the band’s 15th UK Number One album, level with The Beatles on the all-time list. In a three-and-a-half-star review, NME called it “fresh and refined”.

The band scrapped a planned 2026 UK and European stadium tour after Richards was unable to commit. Jagger told NME he does not expect shows this year but hopes to play some in 2027, and he has left the door open to another Glastonbury appearance. Ronnie Wood said Jagger is keen to tour while Richards is not as eager.

The Rolling Stones, a British rock band, formed in London in 1962. MusicBrainz lists 28 studio albums, the newest being “Foreign Tongues”. On October 1, mbuzz reported on the video for “Mr. Charm”, starring Alexander Skarsgård.
