She Wants Revenge announce “The Loved”, their first album in over 15 years

She Wants Revenge have announced “The Loved”, their first album in more than 15 years, due out on 12 February. Alongside the announcement, the band released the lead single, “Black Wax/Our Love”, with a music video.

According to Consequence, the track brings back the band’s dark post-punk sound, built on a distorted bassline and an almost krautrock groove beneath a bleak love song. The band’s Adam Bravin said they have always been drawn to the contradictions in love, how something can be beautiful and destructive at once. He described the song as a natural evolution of the band, made without trying to recreate past work.

Bravin also directed the video. He said he wanted it to feel less like a literal reading of the song and more like a film fragment you walk into halfway through, beautiful but unsettling, leaving things unresolved.

She Wants Revenge are on tour in North America until November, and will play the UK and Europe from 29 January to 14 February.

The band formed in Los Angeles in 2005 and work across alternative rock, gothic rock and the post-punk revival.
