The B-52s to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The B-52s will be honoured with the 2,861st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, 29 October, at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time, Billboard reports. The star sits at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of Amoeba Music.

SiriusXM host Richard Blade, who received his own star in 2024, will emcee the ceremony. The Go-Go's, fellow veterans of the 1970s and 1980s new wave scene who got their star in 2011, and musician, actor and comedian Fred Armisen are scheduled to speak, and the event will be streamed live. Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez praised the band's music and its "fearless spirit" in a statement.

The band peaked with the 1989 album “Cosmic Thing”, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and spent 65 weeks on the chart. Its singles “Love Shack” and “Roam” both climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned Grammy nominations for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal. The follow-up, “Good Stuff”, reached No. 16 and was nominated for the Grammy for best alternative music album.

The B-52s formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976, with Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson and Keith Strickland. After Ricky Wilson, Cindy's brother, died of AIDS-related illness in 1985, Strickland moved from drums to lead guitar. The American new wave and pop rock band's newest studio album, according to MusicBrainz, is “Funplex” from 2008.
