Walrus Audio brings back the Lüm reverb pedal as a permanent model
Walrus Audio has returned the Lüm, a compact multi-mode reverb pedal with presets, to its range as a permanent model. According to Guitar.com, it costs $279.99 or £259 and is sold through the company's website.
The Lüm began life as a limited edition. When Walrus Audio discontinued the Slötva because of poor sales, it was left with unused circuit board assemblies. Rather than scrap them, it reworked the firmware and released the Lüm. That edition sold well enough to earn a full production run. The new version comes in pink instead of the original blue, with a black option also available.
The pedal offers three modes: a "grain cloud", a "grain verb" and a forward/reverse reverb. The grain modes chop the reverb into fragments and play them back with a degree of randomness. Controls include a low-pass filter, plus X and stretch knobs. Three editable factory presets, one per mode, are selected by pressing both footswitches together. Holding the right footswitch glides the effect to a secondary setting almost instantly, over one second or over five seconds. The stretch knob alters the sample rate, and through the "moment" footswitch it adds a ramping pitch shift to the wet signal.
Guitar.com traces the Lüm's character to earlier Walrus Audio designs, the Slö, Slöer, Lore, Fable and Melee. The review notes it pairs well with heavy distortion in a shoegaze vein. Among its drawbacks, it lists the limit of three modes and a secondary setting that changes only one knob at a time.
