Ambrio unveils Spatial Performance Mixer, a DJ mixer built for spatial audio
Newcomer Ambrio has unveiled the Spatial Performance Mixer (SPM), a five-channel DJ mixer that lets performers mix in spatial audio on systems of up to 8.1, according to Gearnews. It cannot be bought or pre-ordered yet: Ambrio plans to start shipping in 2027.
The mixer works with any four or more speakers from any brand, with no external hardware or software, using a custom algorithm that converts stereo material to the speaker array in the room. Every channel has four-band EQ, a highpass/lowpass filter, trim and cue, plus independent 360-degree positioning. Reverb and spatial delay can travel through the space, and a large orange one-touch reset button switches everything on or off, which Ambrio suggests for transitions and climaxes. There is a display with performance and setup views, four-point spatial booth monitoring with adjustable delay, and an algorithm that keeps perceived loudness constant whether on stereo speakers or six.
Connectivity includes a USB-C sound card for streaming from a DAW, four RCA line input pairs, two RCA phono inputs with custom preamps, two XLR/TRS combo mic and instrument inputs, send and return, up to 8.1 balanced XLR main outputs, four balanced booth outputs, headphone cue, a stereo record out and two-way audio over Ethernet. It can be controlled via MIDI and OSC and has CV sync and expression pedal inputs.
Co-founder Nicolas Geysens calls spatial control the innovation but says Ambrio treats the mixer as an instrument, as dub culture always has. Through the Ambrio Incubator Program, units go on loan from October 2026 to clubs, festivals, collectives and academic institutions in Europe, North America and Australia. The first stop is Amsterdam Dance Event: on 23 October at Currents – Futures of Listening, FIBER's spatial sound program, and on 24 October two masterclasses at Loods6.
