Bruce Springsteen covers Neil Young with Dave Grohl at Power to the People festival
Bruce Springsteen performed Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” with Dave Grohl, Dave Matthews and Tom Morello at Morello’s Power to the People festival, according to Rolling Stone.
Springsteen’s set consisted of protest songs, with “Streets of Minneapolis” the only original. Joan Baez joined for Bob Dylan’s “Chimes of Freedom”, and Matthews and Nathaniel Rateliff sang Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son”, which Springsteen had not played live since 2009. The Young song was his first live performance of it since 2004, at a Vote for Change concert in Minnesota.
The festival closed with John Lennon’s “Power to the People” and a full-ensemble “This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie. Other sets also had surprise guests, including Geezer Butler with Jack Black’s Black Sabbath tribute act and Anthrax’s Scott Ian with Public Enemy.
