Midicake introduces UNA, a hardware MIDI composer with three generative tracks

Midicake has introduced UNA, a hardware MIDI composer that turns keyboard playing into an evolving three-part arrangement, according to Synthtopia. It is available to preorder in an Early Bird Edition priced at $519, with the first 150 units scheduled to ship between December 2026 and January 2027.

Instead of simply recording incoming notes, UNA uses the chords it receives as the harmonic source for three coordinated tracks: chord and rhythm, melody, and bass. The chord track handles rhythmic patterns, progressions and sustained drones, the melody track mixes arpeggiator-style behaviour with step sequencing, and the bass track builds its own patterns around the changing harmony. Players can steer the arrangement live, tweak parameters on the hardware or let the sequencer evolve on its own, and a keyboard-split mode lets one hand play chords while the other plays a solo line.

The unit has eight dedicated parameter knobs and an 8 + 16 modulation system. Sequencing covers pitch, gate, velocity, octave, MIDI channel and delay, while pattern tools include ratchets, trills, swing, probability, accents and Euclidean-style muting, plus chord chains, chord suggestions and instant patch recall.

Connectivity includes two independent TRS MIDI outputs, USB-C, a USB host port and MIDI clock to keep drum machines and other sequencers in sync. The free browser-based CONNECT app offers screen mirroring, patch management, routing and contextual help, and the optional Angle Stand tilts UNA and holds a phone or tablet running the app.
