Robert Smith promises The Cure concerts and new songs in 2027

Robert Smith has confirmed that The Cure will play concerts in 2027 and bring new songs to the stage. The frontman made the announcement in a pre-recorded message for BBC Radio 6 Music, marking the band's nomination for Artist of the Year 2026. Smith said he could not yet reveal where or when, but expects the shows to be “bursting with new songs”. No cities or dates have been announced.

In the same message, Smith looked back on 2026, according to OndaRock: in March he curated the Teenage Cancer Trust charity concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall, in early June the band opened their summer at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and the tour closed at Rock En Seine in Paris at the end of August, with 29 more shows in between. He also performed “What's Wrong With Me” live for the first time with Olivia Rodrigo.

The band have been working on the follow-up to “Songs of a Lost World”, the 2024 album that ended a 16-year gap between studio records. In June, Smith told BBC Radio 6 Music they had recorded enough for three albums, with the second ready to be delivered to Universal. He described it as even bleaker than its predecessor, while the third would be unusually pop, “my idea of Cure Pop”, and more upbeat. Neither has a release date.

The Cure formed in 1976 in Crawley, England, and play alternative rock, gothic rock and post-punk. Their last concert in Romania was on 19 July 2026 at Bánffy Castle in Bonțida. In October, mbuzz reported that Robert Smith will receive the Fan Champion Award at the Artist & Manager Awards 2026 on 18 November.
