Talking Heads announce book “Talking Heads: New Feeling” for 18 May

Talking Heads members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Jerry Harrison and Chris Frantz have announced a book, “Talking Heads: New Feeling”, due on 18 May, according to Pitchfork. The date marks 50 years since the band’s debut album, “Talking Heads: 77”.

Published by Abrams Books, the book collects handwritten lyrics, original album sketches and private photos. Speaking to the publisher, Jerry Harrison said some of the material had not left the band’s archive in more than 40 years. It features original essays from all four members, along with contributions from Lorde, Debbie Harry, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Jeff Bridges and others.

The book also includes behind-the-scenes photos from the 1984 concert film “Stop Making Sense”, which returned to cinemas for a limited run in 2023. Ahead of that re-release, Harrison told Pitchfork that watching the film again “revives the joy we had together”. Before promoting the film’s remaster, the band had not appeared together in decades.

On 1 October, Talking Heads announced a remastered super-deluxe edition of their third album, “Fear of Music”, out on 13 November via Rhino. It adds alternate versions, studio outtakes and previously unreleased full recordings of two concerts from the period. Its release will coincide with the launch of a SiriusXM station dedicated to the band.

Talking Heads formed in New York City in 1975 and split in 1991, and were an American post-punk and new wave band. Their newest studio album, according to MusicBrainz, is “Naked” from 1988.
