Taylor Swift debuts “Patient Zero” video at 2026 MTV VMAs

Taylor Swift premiered the video for “Patient Zero,” a track from the deluxe edition “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore,” at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards at the Peacock Theater. Swift directed the clip, which stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, with Cara Delevingne in a supporting role.

According to Pitchfork, the story follows a dissolving marriage while the husband's late ex-wife, played by Swift, haunts the couple from a distance. Stereogum reports that NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford also appears.

At the same show, Swift received the inaugural Artist Director Honors, a new award for artists who direct their own videos, and won Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia.” The four new songs on the Encore edition, “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon,” were written with Max Martin and Shellback, according to Pitchfork.
