New documentary on Taylor Swift's cancelled Vienna shows set for October 2027
A new documentary will chronicle the three Vienna concerts Taylor Swift had to cancel in August 2024 after authorities foiled an ISIS-inspired terror plot. The film, working title “Taylor Swift Wien”, is co-directed by Andreas Pichler and Veronika Kaserer and will premiere in October 2027 on German broadcaster ZDF before an international rollout, according to Variety, as cited by Billboard and Rolling Stone.
Producer Georg Tschurtschenthaler told Variety the film looks at events from several angles, including a procedural strand on how Austrian and German security agencies worked with the CIA and MI5 to stop the attack, and another on Vienna's Swifties. The filmmakers follow three female fans who processed the cancellations and went on to form a support group; they met Austrian police and then-chancellor Karl Nehammer.
According to Rolling Stone, a 21-year-old Austrian identified as Beran A. pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while a second man received 12 years for allegedly encouraging the plot. The shows at Ernst Happel Stadium had been expected to draw up to 65,000 fans, with another 30,000 listening outside.
Swift addressed the plot in her own docuseries, “The End of an Era”, saying “we dodged a massacre.” The American singer-songwriter, born in 1989 in West Reading, released “The Life of a Showgirl” in October 2025; in October mbuzz reported that the album gave her a 100th career week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
