Amy Winehouse honored in London as “Back to Black” turns 20

Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” was played in full on 21 October 2026 at the Roundhouse in London’s Camden, in a one-night celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary. Producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi reunited with the Amy Winehouse Band, led by musical director Dale Davis, while BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley hosted. “This is her house,” Ronson told the crowd, according to Billboard.

The guest vocalists were Corinne Bailey Rae, Jorja Smith, Lianne La Havas, Yebba, Jessie Reyez, Terri Walker, Nia Smith, Skye Newman, Sasha Keable, Baby Rose and FLO. They were chosen by the producers, with Paul O’Duffy, p*nut and former Island Records president Darcus Beese helping with the booking. The concert was set to air on U.K. television on 24 October.

The venue carries a particular weight: Winehouse made her final public appearance there in July 2011, joining her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield at the iTunes Festival. She died three days later, aged 27, from accidental alcohol toxicity, Billboard noted.

Recorded at Daptone Studios in Brooklyn, “Back to Black” was released on 27 October 2006, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and won five Grammys. In the U.K. it ranks among the best-selling albums of all time, with more than 4.6 million chart units.

Amy Winehouse, an English singer-songwriter born in Southgate in 1983, debuted in 2003 with “Frank”. In October, mbuzz reported that a 2006 TV performance of “Back to Black” had been released on YouTube.
