Brandon Flowers debuts “Diamonds On Black Velvet”, a song cut from a Killers album
Brandon Flowers, frontman of the Killers, played “Diamonds On Black Velvet” live for the first time on 20 October at O2 Apollo in Manchester, a stop on his UK solo tour. According to Stereogum, it is a song Killers fans had long been waiting to hear.
Stereogum calls the track a grand, swooning Roy Orbison pastiche that suits Flowers' voice. Its chorus pictures tears as “diamonds on black velvet falling from the sky.”
The Killers once considered putting the song on their 2021 album “Pressure Machine.” Its title surfaced in an Amazon Music video chat with Flowers and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. while the record was being made, but it was left off because it was “too romantic,” Flowers later said in an Instagram Live. Stereogum expects it to appear on the follow-up to his latest solo album, due next year.
Born in 1981 in Henderson, in the United States, Flowers recorded the country album “Thrasher” in Nashville with producers Jonathan Rado and Shawn Everett, who also worked on the Killers' “Imploding The Mirage” (2020) and “Pressure Machine.” According to MusicBrainz, it came out on 21 August 2026. In October mbuzz reported that Flowers premiered the new song “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” at Bristol Beacon on 17 October, taken from another solo album due in 2027.
