Saxon released “Medusa” on 27 October 2026, the second single from “Gods of Thunder”, the British band's 25th studio album, due on 22 January 2027 via Silver Lining Music. The song draws on the Gorgon of Greek mythology whose gaze turned mortals to stone. Biff Byford sums it up, according to metal.de, as “epic metal, an epic story”.

To mark the release, the band launched a competition for a signed guitar in a “Medusa” design, and the single's artwork is again by Peter Sallai; official “Medusa” merchandise is also available. The album has ten tracks, from “The Flight of Pegasus” to “MI5”, covering subjects such as the execution of Anne Boleyn and the Alamo. According to metal.de, Andy Sneap, known for his work with Judas Priest, Exodus and Accept, produced it; WeRock reports that Byford produced the album and Sneap mixed it.

In September the band announced the record with the title track and its video, based on Celtic mythology. Saxon formed in Barnsley in 1975 and are part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal; their previous album, according to MusicBrainz, is “Hell, Fire and Damnation”, released in January 2024.

The “Gods of Thunder” world tour continues in March 2027 with dates in Germany and Switzerland, from Hamburg on 3 March to Cologne on 23 March. In Zurich and Cologne the band brings its “Castles & Eagles” production, with the eagle hovering above the stage: nine metres wide, with a twelve-metre wingspan when fully spread.
